Lochlan's Americana First Birthday Party

Back in 2011, when I got sleep, and only had one child (who took nice long naps), I was able to plan his birthday party. I went for Americana because his birthday was in July, and because it was a theme that I knew he wouldn't pick on his own as he got older and had a choice! (Subsequent birthdays were Trains, Superman, Larryboy Veggietales, you know...). Plus he had the most classic, American boy look to him, so I wanted 1950s antique boy toys, retro candy, a casual farmlike Americana style, classic American food.

On the morning of his first birthday party, I found out I was pregnant with Felicity!

I hadn't gone 100% organic yet -- can you tell?! ;)

I made 68 of those cupcakes! Lots of work! I was frosting them just minutes before the first guests arrived.

Classic burgers and home-made pies, and red and blue cut fruit!

Nothing more American country than drinking of of Ball-Mason jars in the summer. They're on an antique checkerboard tray.

Jeff's mom made the pie. I designed and created the little signs and propped them up with clothespins

Everything down to the dish towels were red, white and blue!

We had so little decor in our home that this banner of Lochlan stayed up in the entryway for several years!

There's just nothing in the world like watching your firstborn child grow up. I would lie down in traffic for that kid.

Vendor List:
I made all the Paper Goods. They included: the invitations/envelopes & thank-you cards, all food labels, Lochlan's high-chair banner, skewer flags for the fruit, trash/recycling signs (not pictured), and the wreath was my own creation too -- down to the little "welcome" flags made with my own paper designs!
